First Check-Up with the OB

Today is my first check-up with my OB. I'm a bit excited and a little bit nervous because I don't know what exactly to expect. Well, this is not the first time I got pregnant but this time is a different case from my first pregnancy.

I am with my daughter right now who doesn't have a class this afternoon and she too is so excited to come with me. I bet she wants to know how it feels like to be an "ATE" (an older sister for the very first time).

I am also with my cousin who is a supervising nurse at a hospital and he will accompany me with my check-up for today. He knows a lot of OB and he has a number of them whom he is very close to, so I think I will be very comfortable with that. However, the OB she's closest too was not around so he referred me to another OB who is also known to be a good doctor.

Based from the pre-natal check-up, I'm 7-8 weeks pregnant. Sadly, I only weigh 88 pounds so the doctor told me to eat more that I should for my own good and the baby's health of course. She gave me two kinds of medicines, one of which is an important vitamin with iron which I should take daily for one month.

The doctor also asked me to undergo a urinalysis test and and a pelvic ultrasound. The urinalysis report was okay, as well as the ultrasound went very well. I'm just so happy with the findings of the ultrasound because the doctor said that as early as today, the heartbeat of my baby is already detected. I just can't explain how happy I am to hear that plus knowing that my EDC is February 10, 2013 - my hubby's birthday.

I just hope and pray that everything else will be okay during my pregnancy this time around. With my first baby and this second baby, thank God I don't have that morning sickness most pregnant women experience. I also vomited but it happened to me twice only. No headaches and bleeding at all. Only little backaches and tiredness when I move so much.

By next month, I will be back for my second check-up and hopefully it will went well like the first time.

Fun Pregnancy Facts

After some days of knowing that I'm pregnant, I started surfing the Internet to get to know more information about pregnancy. Part of my daily reading includes finding out helpful, interesting, amazing, and even weird and shocking things about being pregnant.

Today, I have found several fun pregnancy facts which I would like to share to all my readers especially those pregnant woman out there. Some of these facts may sound really funny but they are said to be real.

1. The average woman's uterus expands up to five hundred times its normal size during pregnancy. It only takes 6-8 weeks for it to return to its original size.

  • I just hope my tummy will not get too big because I have a small body type. I can't imagine myself being small and having a big tummy. I also wish I could go back to my original size weeks after getting birth.

2. Your feet may grow 1-2 sizes during each pregnancy.

  • During my first pregnancy, I experienced my feet getting bigger but not that longer during the 8 and 9 month, but it went back to its original shape weeks after giving birth.

3. Babies play with their umbilical cord in the womb. They also suck their thumb, cry, and dream!

  • Wow, what can my baby dream about? I wish he dreams about me, his Dad, and his older sister. The baby inside me probably cries when I don't get to talk with him and when he's hungry but I'm not.

4. Despite several rumors to the contrary, microwave ovens do not pose a threat to an unborn fetus.

  • I don't use microwave at home so I guess the only threat to the baby inside me is my too much use of the computer.

5. Milk production and lactation can actually begin as early as the second trimester in some women.

  • So far, my breast are getting so big and tender for the past days and I know it will get bigger as soon as it starts to produce milk. I'm just so lucky that I can produce a lot of milk which is good because I plan on breastfeeding my baby as soon as I give birth to him.

6. Carrying a baby “high” or “low” is dependent on a woman’s body type and is not a reliable predictor of the baby’s gender.

  • During my first pregnancy, a lot of people told me that I'm going to have a baby girl because of the size and look of my tummy. Well, I had a baby girl but I don't think that carrying a baby "high" or "low" is a reliable predictor of what the baby's gender will be.

7. Accidents during pregnancy never cause birth marks.

  • This is the first time I heard about this. I have no idea how babies get birth marks. I suppose I need to do more research regarding this.

8. A fetus does not have bowel movements before birth.

  • I wonder where the food I ate which my baby also ate goes.

9. Tall women are more likely to conceive twins.

  • I don't know if there's a scientific basis for this one. But I know some women who are not that tall but they have conceive twins.

10. Baby's life in the uterus is so noisy that he gets accustomed to constant noise.

  • What kind of noise is the baby in my tummy hears? And what kind of noise is there inside my uterus? Well, I always talk to my baby and let him hear music before going to sleep so he too can sleep soundly inside me.

It's Positive!

It's positive, I'm really pregnant! OMG I'm so so happy, I can't explain the feeling. It's like the first time that I got preggy. Well, I've waited for this since December, and thank you Dear Lord for this blessing. My hubby and our daughter is much excited than I am. I know they're very happy as well because it will be a new experience for all of us. The three of us have been together for almost 8 years and few months from now, an additional bundle of joy will join our family.

I don't have plans yet of informing my parents and in-laws until I have my first pre-natal check-up, which I plan before this month of June ends. I just hope and pray that I will have a safe pregnancy and that me and my baby will be healthy enough.

I'm creating a new blog again - Our Posh Little Ones - dedicated to my daughter and to the little baby inside my tummy who will be born soon. I really hope it will be a baby boy this time. My daughter and my hubby also wish for a baby boy who will be named Joaquin Jacob or Lucas Joaquin and we will call him our Baby Ackie.

Everybody else in the family is very excited for this little bundle of joy that will be arriving February next year.  I just hope and pray that whether the baby is a boy or a girl, he or she will be a healthy baby.
